The Virto SharePoint List Form Extender (now broadly evolved and incorporated into the Virto Forms Designer App) is a no-code web part designed to replace default, plain SharePoint forms with highly structured, interactive, and visually appealing custom forms. It allows you to organize numerous list columns into manageable tabs, sections, and blocks. Key Steps to Use the Form Extender 1. Open the Designer Interface Navigate to the target SharePoint list. Click the List or Library tab on the top ribbon.
Click the Forms Designer (or List Form Extender) icon to launch the editor window. 2. Choose the Form Type to Edit Locate the Select form for edit dropdown menu. Select one of the three core form types: Default New Form: For adding new list entries. Default Edit Form: For updating existing items. Default Display Form: For viewing read-only item data. 3. Design the Layout (Tabs & Blocks) Use the drag-and-drop framework to move fields around.
Create new sections, tabs, or blocks to group related fields together (e.g., separating “General Info” from “Financial Details”).
Add custom elements like images, lookup columns, HTML, CSS snippets, or description blocks to guide users. 4. Configure Field Properties
Select a field on the workspace to open its view properties.
Toggle visibility to hide field labels or make fields entirely hidden based on user needs.
Apply custom design styling such as font colors, sizes, and field text formatting. 5. Save and Publish
Click Save to apply the configuration directly to the SharePoint list.
Optional: Export the form layout as a template if you want to import and replicate the same design on a completely different SharePoint list. Technical Considerations & Rules
No Attachments: You cannot add or manipulate default “Attachment” fields directly within the customized extender grid.
No Document Libraries: The Form Extender tool natively targets SharePoint Lists; document library fields are not supported.
Permissions: By default, only SharePoint site administrators can construct or alter these forms, though they can explicitly grant permissions to other user groups.
Are you working with an older On-Premises SharePoint server (like 2013/2016/2019), or are you using SharePoint Online (Microsoft 365)? Knowing your version will help me give you the exact interface steps.
