How to Secure Your Files With GiliSoft Privacy Protector Protecting sensitive data is a necessity in today’s digital landscape. Personal documents, financial records, and private photos require robust security measures to prevent unauthorized access. GiliSoft Privacy Protector provides a comprehensive suite of tools designed to hide, lock, and safely delete your files. This guide will walk you through the essential steps to secure your data using this software. Set Up Your Master Password

The master password is your first line of defense. It controls access to the software and prevents others from changing your security settings. Launch the application for the first time.

Enter a strong password containing letters, numbers, and symbols.

Provide a recovery email to ensure you can regain access if you forget your password. Click OK to save your credentials. Hide Files and Folders

Hiding your data makes it completely invisible to other users and applications. Hidden files will not appear in File Explorer or search results.

Select the “Hide Data” tab from the main dashboard navigation menu.

Choose your target type by clicking on “Hide File” or “Hide Folder”. Browse and select the specific items you want to conceal.

Confirm your choice to instantly remove them from public view. Lock and Restrict Access

If you want files to remain visible but inaccessible, the locking feature is the ideal choice. Users will see the file icon but will be prompted for a password if they try to open it.

Navigate to the “Lock Data” section in the left-hand sidebar.

Click the appropriate button to add files, folders, or entire drives. Select your items from the file explorer window.

Apply the lock to block all reading and writing capabilities on those items. Create a Secure Private Disk

For ongoing projects, a virtual private disk acts as a secure digital safe. You can store, edit, and save files directly inside this encrypted zone. Click on the “Private Disk” option within the tools menu.

Define the disk size based on your storage needs and available hard drive space. Assign a drive letter to identify your virtual safe easily.

Activate the disk to mount it, allowing you to drag and drop files into it like a standard USB drive.

Close the software to automatically unmount and lock the disk when you are finished. Permanently Shred Sensitive Data

Standard deletion methods leave digital footprints that file recovery software can easily retrieve. The built-in shredder overwrites the data gaps to ensure permanent destruction.

Open the “File Shredder” tool from the advanced features panel. Add the unwanted files or folders to the deletion queue.

Select a shredding algorithm depending on your required security level.

Click “Shred” to permanently erase the data from your hard drive beyond recovery.
