Refined GitHub is a popular browser extension that simplifies the GitHub interface and adds more than 200 useful features, such as clickable issue references, visible whitespace, and one-click merge conflict fixers.

Here is how you can install and configure it for Google Chrome. How to Install Refined GitHub

Open the Web Store: Navigate to the official Refined GitHub page on the Chrome Web Store.

Add the Extension: Click the Add to Chrome button on the right side of the screen.

Confirm Installation: When the browser prompt appears, click Add extension to download and install it. How to Configure the Extension

Once installed, a welcome page will automatically open to guide you through setting up a Personal Access Token (PAT). Providing a token prevents API rate-limiting issues and enables features on private repositories.

Open Extension Options: If the welcome page did not open automatically, click the extension icon in your Chrome toolbar and select Options.

Generate a GitHub Token: Click the Generate a token link inside the extension settings. This will securely redirect you to your GitHub account’s token generation page.

Save the Token: Scroll to the bottom of the GitHub page without changing any pre-selected scopes and click Generate token. Copy the resulting token string immediately.

Paste and Verify: Return to the Refined GitHub settings tab, paste your copied token into the token input field, and look for your GitHub username to appear next to it, confirming a successful sync. Customizing Features

All 200+ enhancements are enabled by default. If you find specific features intrusive or unnecessary, you can use the checkboxes listed right underneath the token field on the extension’s settings page to toggle individual features off or on.
